Acupuncture and Homeopathic Medicine

Both Dr. Kirsten Williams and Dr. Cynthia Easton have been certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) and are members of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.

Veterinary acupuncture utilizes both the ancient theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and western medical observations. Among other benefits, the use of acupuncture has been shown to provide increased blood flow to specific areas of treatment, increase the body's endorphins (the body's natural painkillers) and stimulate immunity by increasing white blood cell count and antibody production.

Other specialty services available to our patients include the use of Chinese and Western herbs (treating diseases with a specific herb or a mixture of herbs), Homeopathic medicine (stimulate the healing process using homeopathic remedies) and Prolotherapy the use of injections to stimulate scar tissue formation near unstable joints in order to reduce pain.

Some of the conditions for which acupuncture and homeopathic veterinary medicine are often used include:

  • Pain
  • Arthritis
  • Interverterbral disk (spinal) disease
  • Muscle spasms
  • Epilepsy
  • Auto-immune disorders
  • Allergies
  • Chronic infections
  • Incontinence
  • Behavioral disorders

Chiropractic Services

Susan West, D.C. offers chiropractic care to our patients by pre-arranged appointments. A chiropractic exam includes the history, neurological exam, stance and gait analysis, motion and static palpation and may include other exams as needed.

Canine and feline patients are seen in conjunction with veterinary care. Chiropractic care is not intended to replace veterinary care and is offered as a complementary and alternative addition to veterinary medicine. Your pet must be examined by your veterinarian prior to a chiropractic exam. Follow-up chiropractic visits do not require a veterinary exam unless there is a change in the condition of your pet.

Chiropractic care may be appropriate for performace dogs (show dogs, athletes), geriatric pets, or for any pet with the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Lameness
  • Trouble getting up or down
  • Muscle spasms
  • General neck, back and leg pain
  • Disk and joint problems
  • Maintenance of joint and spinal health

Reproductive Services and Internal Medicine

Dr. Janice L. Cain, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, specializes in complex and challenging medical cases. Her sub-specialty is canine reproduction. She has lectured throughout the country at veterinary conferences and works with breeders throughout California.

This can involve aiding in the interpretation of various test results or performing special procedures that are not commonly done in general practice. A partial list of reproductive services provided by Dr. Cain includes:

  • Pre-breeding examinations
  • Ovulation timing
  • Semen freezing
  • Artificial inseminations, including trans-cervical and surgical inseminations
  • Caesarian sections
