What Is a Veterinary Emergency?

  Emergency situations involve life-threatening or rapidly worsening conditions that require immediate medical attention.
 

These may include:

• Difficulty breathing
• Active seizures
• Collapse or inability to stand
• Severe trauma, including being hit by a car
• Severe abdominal swelling or suspected bloat
• Signs of heatstroke
• Male cats unable to urinate
• Pale gums or significant weakness

  If your pet is experiencing any of these symptoms, they should be evaluated immediately.
 

What Is Urgent Care?

  Urgent care is for conditions that are serious, painful, or worsening, but are not immediately life-threatening. These pets should ideally be seen the same day when possible.
 

Common urgent care concerns include:

• Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
• Limping or sudden mobility changes
• Ear or eye infections causing discomfort
• Cuts, wounds, or abscesses
• Paw injuries or suspected foxtails
• Coughing or mild respiratory symptoms
• Skin irritation or severe itching
• Loss of appetite or noticeable behavior changes
• Urinary discomfort or changes

  Because some conditions can worsen quickly, prompt evaluation is always recommended.

What to Expect During Your Visit

  When you arrive, your pet will first receive a triage assessment so our medical team can evaluate urgency and prioritize care appropriately.
 

  Once your pet has been examined, we will review findings, discuss recommended diagnostics or treatment options, and go over associated costs with you.
