Getting to Know BRVC: Employee Spotlight by Erin Selby

I put myself in their [the client's] shoes. That pet is their baby. My dog is my baby; my best friend. They make you smile every day. You want to watch these animals get better.”

It is our exceptional and hard-working staff that makes us who we are. This is our chance to shine the spotlight on them and share what makes them so wonderful with our clients!

Niki White is a Registered Veterinary Technician who has been with BRVC since 2005. She feels passionately about her job and the special connection she is able to form with pets and their families.

Every day, small moments present themselves to allow these connections to take place; from being greeted with an enthusiastic hug by one of her favorite patients, Atlas the Great Dane, or comforting a child that is worried about her pet. These moments are what Niki says makes BRVC feel like family.

Dedicated to her patients, Niki once stayed up all night monitoring two patients under anesthesia. She had just started her afternoon shift earlier in the day when a Boston terrier and a Labrador came in actively seizuring. They had ingested snail bait and were in critical condition. They needed to be put under anesthesia to allow their bodies to rest and recover if they were to have a chance of surviving. Even though she had completed her regular shift, Niki returned to sit overnight with the dogs, monitoring their vitals to ensure their safety until the morning. In the end both dogs made a successful recovery; without a doubt Niki’s dedication contributed to this. When asked what is going through her mind when she is treating injured and ill patients, Niki answers, “I put myself in their [the client's] shoes. That pet is their baby. My dog is my baby; my best friend. They make you smile every day. You want to watch these animals get better.” She is a true hero!

Outside of work and animals, Niki’s main passion is crossfit. “It’s pretty much like my second job. I spend about 2 to 3 hours training every day.  Hopefully I will be doing some competitions in the near future to test my abilities. I love it and I hope to be doing it for the rest of my life.”
