Meet Shelby: The Stunning, Shy, & Silly Sweetheart Looking for Her Family

Every month, we love shining a light on an adoptable animal in our community — a pet whose story deserves to be shared and whose perfect family might be reading. This month, we’re excited to introduce Shelby, a stunning and sweet one-year-old Shepherd mix currently looking for her forever home through our rescue partners at Tri-Valley Animal Rescue.

With her gentle heart, shy charm, goofy playfulness, and melt-your-soul golden eyes, Shelby has quickly become a volunteer favorite. Her story is best told in her own words — so we’ve shared her full, pup-voiced bio below to help you fall in love just as much as we did!

Hello, I’m Shelby — a gentle, affectionate, and dainty one-year-old Shepherd mix. I’m 39 pounds of soft kisses and happy tail-wags.

The first thing you’ll notice about me is how incredibly gorgeous I am. My silky soft cream-colored fur, these cute bat ears and even cuter head tilts, shiny golden eyes and a happy smile that instantly lights up a room - all work perfectly together to win your attention…and hopefully your heart too.

As you approach, you might see me inch closer to or even hide behind my volunteer friends, who are my safe space. I’m a bit of an introvert and need a little time and patience to feel comfortable around new people.

Spend some quality time with me, toss a few jerky treats my way, and let me come to you at my own pace — and you’ll soon see my eager-to-please and goofy side. And oh…fair warning — once I warm up to you, spontaneous kisses and heartfelt love declarations may happen at any moment!

Some of my happy moments are spent out in the yard cuddling with my favorite people, swapping gentle kisses for belly rubs, and then zooming around with a ball in my mouth! Sometimes I even toss a stuffy in the air and chase after it — managing to look even more adorable!

But wait… you haven’t seen me at my happiest until I’m running the fence with other doggos! Just the sight of them makes my ears perk up, my eyes sparkle, my butt wiggle, and my smile stretch from ear to ear!

Manners are very important to me. I’ll ‘Sit’ when asked — especially if treats, which I take very gently, are coming my way. I walk nicely on a leash, but I need a little training and confidence building to help me perfect my strut.

I dream of a loving family who can provide a safe, nurturing space for me to blossom — a home where I am cherished for who I am and encouraged to grow my confidence and social skills to be the doggo I’m meant to be.

Please, give me a chance to show you what a good girl I am! And if you’ve got a doggo at home, please bring them along for an on-leash, supervised meet-and-greet to see if we’re a paw‑fect match!
